This tool will help you create goals using the SMART Goal Setting model. The SMART model provides a framework that helps \"clarify your ideas, focus your efforts, use your time and resources productively, and increase your chances of achieving what you want in life.\" (MindTools, n.d.)<\/p>\n\n

As you progress through the tool, use the \"SMART Check!<\/strong>\" feature, in the top right corner of each page, to review the requirements for each step and revise your goals accordingly.<\/p>\n\n

Measurable targets also allow us to develop incremental milestones to track progress over time (attainable). These are trackable and give consistent feedback about whether you are on pace to reach your goal. Are you physically, mentally, emotionally prepared to dedicate yourself to this goal?<\/li>\n\t
Do you have or can you get the support your need?<\/li>\n\t
Do you have the nessesary skills and resources?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
If you answer no to any of these questions, you may need to revise to reconsider this goal so you can answer yes to all of them.<\/p>\n\n
If you do not set yourself up for success at the beginning stages, you are not likely to follow through on the milestones you set and are unlikely to achieve your goal.<\/p>\n\n

Consider the following questions:<\/p>\n\n

Do you have a specific target date for your goal to be accomplished?<\/li>\n\t
Do you think it is a realistic target (not to close and not too far away)?<\/li>\n\t
Do you have control over the target date?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
Do your best to stay on track for as long as you can, but DO NOT change your target date. If you miss it, set a new goal. You could set a similar or revised goal, applying what you have learned from your first attempt.<\/p>\n\n
Remember, the target date should create a healthy sense of urgency that will propel you forward. It should not cause anxiety or overwhelm you. If you have applied the other steps of the SMART model well, you should have a realistic plan to meet this date.<\/p>\n\n
It can be helpful to add incremental target dates before your final deadline. This allows you to check-in, reflect on your success, reevaluate your progress, and make any necessary changes.<\/p>\n\n
