Legal citations often use abbreviations to reference the title of the journal where an article is published. <\/p>\n\n

In our example, the abbreviation is \"Adv Q\". <\/p>\n\n

Appendix D in the McGill Guide<\/a> provides a list of abbreviations used in the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation.<\/em><\/li>\n\t
The Cardiff Index to Legal Abbreviations<\/a> is a multinational index that allows you to search by abbreviation.<\/li>\n\t
If you found your citation using the Index to Canadian Legal Literature (see below), this index has its own abbreviation list (see ICLL Periodicals List<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

You may get several versions of the same journal in your results. For instance, in this example, there are two results<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n

Advocate's Quarterly: A Canadian Journal for Practitioners of Civil Litigation. <\/em>This is listed as \"Available at Lederman Law Library\", which means it is a print journal.<\/li>\n\t
Advocate's Quarterly<\/em>. This is listed as \"Available Online\", but there is a note that the most recent 3 years are not available online.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
This means we have two access points for the same journal.<\/p>\n\n
Our article is from 2023, which (as of this writing) falls within the most recent 3 years. If the article is online, you will usually have to click into the right volume and issue before you will see the article.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
