Module 4 Section 1: Identifying Transferable Teaching Skills

In this section, we will identify transferable skills gained from teaching and preparing a teaching dossier.

By completing this section, you will be able to:

  • differentiate between hard and soft skills in your professional practice;
  • articulate transferable skills gained from teaching and preparing a teaching dossier; and
  • examine your priorities to determine what you want from your future career.

This 60-minute self-paced module is part of a four-module series for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows exploring strategies to reflect on their teaching and develop their teaching dossier.

Are you interested in adopting this series into your current and future graduate student and post-doctoral fellow professional development programming? If yes, download the "Institutional Guide" (PDF | DOCX) for programming ideas, embedding instructions, and customization options.

The series was co-developed by five institutional partners: Ryerson (X) University, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, University of Windsor, and Western University. This project is made possible with funding by the Government of Ontario and through eCampusOntario’s support of the Virtual Learning Strategy. To learn more about the Virtual Learning Strategy, visit
