Readers scan pages, looking for bolding<\/strong>, hyperlinks, and numbers, in search of relevant passages. <\/span><\/p>\n\n
They then skim these, rather than reading whole paragraphs. <\/span><\/p>\n\n

Many people associate reading with leisure, pleasure and comfort. Readers also love the concreteness of a marked up text, one with lots of tabs and annotations and sticky notes to remind us how far we\u2019ve come. But we don\u2019t associate these same feelings of enjoyment with reading digital texts. Self-regulation is monitoring your own learning. <\/strong>With paper books, we do this automatically, by setting a purpose for reading, and using sticky notes, highlighters, and and margin notes to stay on track. But we often don\u2019t use these strategies when reading digitally.
