ECE and Parent/Guardian Communication: Informal Scenario
Rationale
This parent communication simulation game was created to provide ECE students with the opportunity to practice communicating with families in an informal setting like pick up or drop off. It also allows ECE faculty to offer guidance and feedback in a low stake setting.
Building relationships is a critical component in the field of ECE and a requirement of the Code of Ethics. By offering students opportunities to practice with feedback prior to practicum, they may enter similar situations with a degree of clarity and confidence.
Faculty Guide
This is a simulated experience for students to practice pre-practicum. Students can work independently and be guided by prompts & brief feedback statements in the simulation, or the simulation can be used in facilitated small or large group sessions, depending on the faculty’s needs. The small or large group facilitated session would allow for discussion and idea-sharing at each prompt throughout the simulation.
Whichever option meets the faculty member’s needs, key questions & reflection opportunities have been provided within the simulation to allow for independent, small or large group debriefing.
