Debrief is a facilitated or guided reflection used to provide feedback to team members in the hopes of improving similar events in the future and <\/span>preventing burnout among staff<\/span> <\/span>(Kessler et al., 2015).<\/span><\/p>\n\n
It allows for a discussion on individual and team performance and can identify <\/span>what went well, as well as potential errors and what can be improved<\/span> (Hale et al., 2020; Lyman, 2021).<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Mark Jenson, a 54 year old male (he\/him), was working on a farm with heavy machinery, when a piece of equipment fell onto him causing him to be knocked unconscious and trapped. After 2 hours, he was found by a coworker and paramedics were called. On arrival to the ER, his vital signs were as follows: GCS 6, BP 62\/48, HR 117, SpO2 88% on RA, RR 8, and Temp of 36.6. A Trauma Code was activated. During the resuscitation efforts, Mark was intubated, was found to have a hemo\/pneumothorax so received bilateral chest tubes, and had an unstable pelvic fracture. After the staff get back from transferring the patient to the ICU, any member of the resusciation team is capable of leading the debrief. To start, it is best to invite anyone who was present for the resuscitation to return to the resuscitation bay for the debrief to take place. It is important to ensure that everyone is mentally okay before proceeding. It is then important to ensure that everyone is aware that participation is voluntary and not mandatory. He was resuscitated with mass transfusions which increased his blood pressure. He also had an open-book pelvic fracture so a binder was applied.
