Incorporating best practices into your teaching is an incremental and continuous development process. This project will give you the opportunity to use the principles learned in this course to gradually create a full array of content, activities, and evaluations, with a specific focus that can then be used in your current or future teaching practice.<\/p>\n"},"library":"H5P.AdvancedText 1.1","subContentId":"586eb7d8-64e7-417b-97f3-4d47c6963580","metadata":{"contentType":"Text","license":"U","title":"Untitled Text"}},"title":"Purpose"},{"content":{"params":{"text":"

To make this project as useful to you as possible, you will make 3 choices for your work:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

A teaching subject area of interest<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
The student level that you would like to work with<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
A teaching point for your chosen subject area and level <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
After these decisions are made, throughout the course you will work on the creation of a full 3-hour lesson plan. You may develop a lesson for one 3-hour class or for two or three shorter classes, as long as the total time requirement is met.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
Your lesson plan must include these sections, and must show the time allotment for each section that is marked with an asterisk (*):<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
- Learning Outcomes for the Lesson<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Introduction\/Warm-up*<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Teaching Presentation*<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Controlled (Focused) Practice*<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Less Controlled (Less Focused) Practice*<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Free Practice*<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Evaluation\/Assessment*<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Example(s) of formative assessment(s)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Example(s) of summative assessment(s) that use a rubric for grading<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Wrap-up\/Closure*<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
- Bonus marks will be given for the inclusion of ideas for extension activities or follow up work (list with a brief description for each item).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
  Your content must:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

  Clearly demonstrate the principles of universal design for learning.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
  \n\t
  Clearly demonstrate your approach for establishing a positive learning environment.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
  Clearly demonstrate activities that foster student engagement and interaction.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
  Include at least three (3) examples of materials or activities that are of your own design.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
  Use at least one learning technology.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
  Clearly demonstrate student choice for action and expression.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
  The above criteria can and should be combined and intertwined throughout your lesson plan.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

  For example, you can create a formative assessment that allows the student to choose their task and how they show their knowledge, which would incorporate 3 of the criteria on the list.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

  You may also use sourced authentic materials and\/or materials shared by or adapted from those created by classmates.   You can and should create materials and assessments as we go through the course. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
  Work Saver Tips:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

  In some cases, you will be given a specific task for your in-class work or your assigned asynchronous work for one of our modules. However, there will also be occasions when you have a choice of topic for your work. <\/span><\/span>\n\n\t
  \n\t\t
  At these times, you are encouraged to create materials that fit with your project. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t<\/ul>\n\t<\/li>\n\t
  Then, you can use the feedback you receive for that course work to edit, improve, or revise the material and include it as part of your final project.<\/span><\/span>\n\t
  \n\t\t

  At mid-course, you will meet individually with your teacher to discuss your progress on your project. At this time, you will be asked to summarize your ideas for:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
  \n\t
  The structure of your lesson (1 long lesson, 2-3 shorter lessons), with a tentative mapping of timelines and content.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
  Your ideas for activities and materials and reasons for your choices.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
  Your ideas for formative and summative assessment(s) and reasons for your choices.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
  You can also use this time to ask questions or clarify expectations, work with your teacher to problem-solve issues or brainstorm ideas.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
  \n\t
  Progress meetings will occur during the week of December 6, 2021.<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n\n\t
  \n\t\t
  Students will sign up for a meeting time. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t

  You may choose any format you wish for your final submission as long as it meets all of the criteria on the grading rubric. Some ideas:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

  You can write out your lesson plan with labelled sections and timing<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t
  You can create a short video presentation of your plan (maximum of 10 minutes)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t
  You can create a poster presentation<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t
  Etc. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t<\/ul>\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
  You must also submit your developed materials \u2013 worksheets, interactive activities, videos used, assessments and rubrics, etc.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
