What is Turnitin?<\/h3>\n\n
Turnitin finds similarities in students' writing with materials in its database. It scans for similarities with online sources, other students' submissions, publications, and other documents. Students' submissions produce a Similarity Report that outlines what content matches the sources that Turnitin has on file. <\/p>\n\n
It does not automatically determine if cheating or plagiarism has occured. For example, if there is quote from the BBC, then that content will have 100% similarity with the BBC article. If the article is properly cited, then it is absolutely acceptable. Some courses will even require <\/em>quoting of reliable sources.
