Accurate pronunciation of sounds and words is an important part of fluency, allowing your listeners to focus on your ideas, rather than understanding your speech.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

In the first week of the course, you will complete two short tasks to help your teacher assess your pronunciation starting point. Specifically, these baseline tasks will help to identify target sounds or speech patterns for you to focus on during the weeks of the course. For this task, you will record a short (1-2 minute) video to introduce yourself and tell the story of your name. Use these prompt questions to help you develop your story:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

What is your full name?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
Who gave this name to you?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
Does your name have a meaning in your first language?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
Do you have a nickname or a different name that you want to be used in class or that your friends or family use? If yes, what is it and how did you get this name\/choose this?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
What else about your name is interesting?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
This video will be visible to the whole class<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For this task, you will choose an English song that you wish to learn and then record a video of yourself either singing the song or saying the song lyrics (with appropriate pacing and rhythm). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
Note: Whatever you choose for this stage of the test will also be used for the Pronunciation <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Progress Test (Week 6).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n
Your video must be one continuous recording; you may not stop and start the video. If you wish, you may zoom the video in so only the mouth area of your face is shown. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
