ABC Reflection & Analysis: Exploring Antecedent, Behaviour, and Consequence in ECE
This is an interactive Digital Learning Object (DLO) about the topic of using an ABC model (Antecedent, Behaviour, Consequence) to observe and reflect in early childhood education. This is part of a series of three standalone DLOs, with the purpose of providing pre- and new-service Early Childhood Educators and early years professionals with opportunities to develop their professional skills by engaging interactively with scenarios that introduce concepts related to observing and interpreting behaviours. This is a safe and flexible space that supports learners in utilizing the DLOs in an accessible and inclusive manner. The DLOs can be used and reused while learners explore at their own pace.
Skills development supported by use of these DLOs include, but are not limited to noticing, observation, responding, planning, reflection, health and safety, using an ABC model for observing and analyzing behaviours, and being intentional about supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion in the learning environment.
Note that students would not be expected to identify everything nor respond perfectly right away - these are learning tools and are intended to be used and reviewed multiple times, improving with each use. For best image quality and readability, use full-screen mode.
This DLO could take anywhere from 10 minutes to complete one scenario to 1 hour or more to explore multiple scenarios and pathways. Reflective questions and prompts will take additional time.
