MODULE 2: CRITICAL READING, PARAPHRASING, AND SUMMARIZING<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n

Module Description and Timelines<\/h2>\n\n
In this module, we\u2019ll be covering critical reading skills, paraphrasing skills and summarizing skills. I assume you all have a passing familiarity with these topics, so we\u2019ll be honing these skills for post-secondary and professional reading and writing tasks.<\/p>\n\n
The module should take you about 4 weeks<\/strong> to complete. Here's the schedule for the synchronous sessions:<\/p>\n\n

Week 4 = Critical reading <\/li>\n\t
Week 5 = Paraphrasing<\/span> <\/li>\n\t
Week 6 = Summarizing <\/li>\n\t
Week 7 = Summary Report DUE<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
<\/span> I highly recommend you attend the synchronous session in week 5. We\u2019ll be doing the paraphrasing test in groups there (one submitted per group). You can complete this on your own if you really can\u2019t make the synchronous session. For those who can make it, the groups work really well for this type of assessment and provide a supportive environment for it. Besides, groups are fun!<\/p>\n\n

Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n\n
Critical reading is efficient. It\u2019s how we learn. So this module is essentially teaching you how to learn efficiently<\/span><\/strong>, a skill you\u2019ll need throughout your academic and professional careers. \u201cReading\u201d in this module refers to taking in information regardless of the medium. You can use the same tools we\u2019ll use to read arguments in written form to analyze documentaries, films, speeches, podcasts, even advertisements, as we\u2019ll see in the next module.<\/p>\n\n

Recognize patterns of organization in texts and identify the components of arguments<\/li>\n\t
