Rationale

This indoor professional supervision 360 tour was created to provide Early Childhood Education students an opportunity to practice their sound professional judgment.

Professional supervision can be challenging because it changes and is a multi-faceted process that requires ECEs to stay child-focused and aware of their surroundings. This tour allows students to practice and receive feedback from faculty members by making connections to both the current legislation and the Standards of Practice.

Professional supervision requires the knowledge, skill, and good judgment of an ECE to identify and respond to situations in the moment to reduce the risk of injury to children

Faculty Guide

This indoor 360 tour is intended as a practice experience of a real-world setting for students pre-practicum. The tour can be used in two ways. It is accompanied by the Indoor Professional Supervision Assignment and Rubric.

Small groups

Working in small groups, the student can view and move around the 360 tour together, discussing and noting their observations on the activity log. The log will ask them to note a concern or unprofessional detail, write a single statement rationale for their notation, and link to Legislation and/or the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

This small group engagement encourages students to work together to ensure a quality environment and talk about their findings. Once the group has completed their tour of the indoor environment, they submit their activity table for review/grading. Once reviewed/graded, the answer-key environment will open for students to view with explanations about the concerns and unprofessional details in the environment. They can also view the hazard-free environment.

Independently

Much like the small group activity, the student can view and move around the 360 tour, noting their observations on the activity log. The log will ask them to note a concern or unprofessional detail, write a single statement rationale for their notation, and link to Legislation and/or the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

The independent activity ensures each student is accountable for children health and safety in the environment while ensuring professional standards are met. Once the individual student has completed their tour of the indoor environment, they submit their activity table for review/grading. Once reviewed/graded, the answer-key environment will open for the student to view with explanations about the issues presented in the 360 tour of the environment. They can also view the hazard-free environment.
