Some portion of it is above the still water level (the upper delta plain), and some portion is below the still water level. Current lineations are linear streaks of sediment that are aligned with the current. They usually form either where current velocities are highest, or where a thin layer of water flows over a sediment bed (think in the swash and backswash zone). This area of the lakebed is covered in wave ripples. Wave ripples have symmetrical prfiles and fairly straight (sometimes bifurcating or 'splitting') crests. Wave action makes the sediment oscillate back and forth until it piles up in these ripple forms. The more 'sinuous' ripples directly in the path of the discharging stream are 'linguoid' ripples, referring to their 'tongue-like' shape. They form in mid-velocity currents flowing in a single direction continuously.
