Usually they end up in our local landfills and pollute the soil, ground water and overall surroundings. Eventually when our landfills cannot contain them they are shipped off to third-world countries. There, the E-waste sits for many years, locals come to scavenge any iron, copper, silver or gold within the electronics. Yes almost every electronic device has small amounts of gold, silver, copper and iron which make up the boards and circuits. On a small scale, we can take our used electronics to places where they do proper E-Waste recycling. Major stores like Staples do E-waste recycling, and a quick google search can show you other places in your area with that service. Another way we can reduce E-Waste on a small scale is by not upgrading our electronics so offten. This will place less electronics in our landfills. On a major scale one could team up with global organizations and have an awarness seminar for the community to raise awarness and promote proper E-waste recyling.
