Look, when I need to know something, I tend to just Google it. Most of us do. <\/p>\n\n
There are tremendous advantages to using Google as a search engine.  <\/p>\n\n

convenient<\/strong><\/span> (who doesn't love being able to access it 24\/7 from any device?)<\/li>\n\t

Filter Bubbles<\/h2>\n\n

Natural language vs. Boolean searching<\/h2>\n\n
A difference between using search engines like Google and library databases is in how you search for information. <\/p>\n\n
Databases require you to use key terms<\/span><\/strong> or search terms<\/span><\/strong> rather than natural language. <\/p>\n\n
If you want to know how violence in horror films has changed over time, you could type this sentence into a Google search:<\/p>\n\n
How has violence in horror films changed over the years?<\/span><\/p>\n\n
Google understands natural language and will probably give you the type of results you're looking for. <\/p>\n\n
However, if you typed that sentence into a database search, you would get every article that has the words \"how\", \"has\", \"in\", \"the\", etc. In other words, it would just give you every article in the entire database. <\/p>\n\n

All post-secondary institutions<\/strong> have libraries that subscribe to different databases. These are open to students, and sometimes, available for people to use if they wander in off the street (depending on the library and how it's set up).  <\/p>\n\n
Public library systems<\/strong> also subscribe to certain databases, especially in their \"Research Library\" buildings. These are open to anyone with a library card. <\/p>\n\n
