Paraphrasing

When citing research, it is almost always better to paraphrase than to quote because:

  • it proves that you understand 
  • It maintains the fluency and cohesion of your writing
  • it avoid the risk of plagiarism

How to paraphrase

Paraphrasing means to change the words and structure of the original passage, BUT IT MEANS MORE THAN THAT:

  • You need to be abe to put the idea in words and grammar that you understand
  • You don't just paraphrase sentences, you paraphrase ideas.
